According to a study by Sport+Markt consulting firm, an incredible 4.7 billion people, close to 70% of the World’s population watch the English Premier League on television. Global clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham all compete every year for the English Premier League title.
Getting into ‘professional’ (i.e.: paid) football at the age of 18, without anyone having any previous experience of your abilities is not going to be easy. Certainly, the University will have a team, which you’ll be able to join, but it’d take some kind of miracle to progress from there. Not forgetting, of course, if you’re coming to the UK on a student visa, there may be restrictions on you in terms of actually ‘working’. Each year, more and more international learners from over 180 different countries are choosing to pursue their education in England.
If you are a talented footballer with the potential to play professionally, the UK is a natural fit for International soccer players both culturally and for living with the best league in the world and the excitement that brings on.
Below we outline some of the reasons you might have decided to study in the UK:-
•Excellent international reputation
•Good quality of education
•Wide choice of courses
•Develops your English language
•The diverse culture and people
•Value for money
•Provides individuals with the best opportunity to develop and excel their game whilst continuing their full-time education
•Offers opportunities to progress into Professional/Semi-Professional Football, University and Employment
That being outlined, it is imperative discussing the cons of studying in the UK as well.
•Difficulties in finance: UK is the 4th most expensive country in the world to study in. The average cost of living and tuition combined with the cut-neck exchange can be overwhelming. Arriving in the UK for a PG degree cost my parents £25,000; accommodation, upkeep and tuition per year. Message me on Twitter for consultation
•Students are given only four months to look for a graduate job within the current tier 4 visa rules.
• The food in England is unpleasant to eat and smell for me, tastes might vary.
• June up until September thereabouts is when the weather is likely to be pleasant especially relocating from a country with a friendlier temperature; shop wisely.
• Very importantly, every culture has unspoken rules which affect the way people treat others. For instance, don't expect to go on your friend's birthday party dinner without your wallet handy and of course stacked. People from a different culture may have different views of the world from yours
